The Union Street Inn is a classic example of “typical Nantucket” architecture circa 1770. The Bed & Breakfast Inn is located in the historic village just off Main Street’s cobblestones and the harbor. The inn features twelve Nantucket hotel guest rooms in a crisp, romantic “New England-by-way-of-France” décor. Guests enjoy boutique hotel style and services mixed with a home-cooked B&B breakfast on the garden patio. The inn closes in winter season and re-opens in the spring.

Union Street Inn history:

• Built as a residence circa 1770
• Original structure was a double house later converted to a single dwelling with six bays and a column in the middle of the stair hall when you enter the front door
• Previous owners were Christopher Mitchell (1819-1832) who ran a prominent Nantucket shipping company that dealt in oil, candle making, and ship parts. Edward C. Joy (1859-1866) was a whaling captain who mastered the voyages of the “Lydia” in 1833 and the “Constitution” in 1835.
• Building was converted to a Nantucket inn in the early 1920’s and has operated continuously as a B&B to the present time
